After extensive modifications with AT Power’s product and fine-tuning, the car is now performing flawlessly at the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR) test track.

In Mirfield, West Yorkshire, 911 Retro Works has built a reputation for taking air-cooled Porsche icons and refining them into something sharper, more focused, and far more personal. The Works 993 GTR Evo #5 is a perfect example of that philosophy, a build that respects the original Porsche 993 Carrera 2 foundation while transforming it into a high-performance, analogue-driven restomod with modern engineering precision.

Finished in understated Granite Grey, the car avoids loud theatrics, instead leaning into a quiet confidence that only deepens on closer inspection. Exterior detailing is elevated with Weiss gold wheels, badges, and trim, tying the whole design together with a subtle motorsport-inspired edge.

At the heart of the GTR Evo #5 sits a 3.8-litre flat-six engine, rebuilt and refined for stronger response and improved breathing. Rather than relying on forced induction or artificial enhancement, the focus remains on mechanical purity, a hallmark of the 993 platform when properly developed.

That philosophy continues with individual throttle bodies (ITBs), giving each cylinder its own dedicated airflow path. The result is razor-sharp throttle response and an intake character that is as emotional as it is functional. The engine becomes less of a single unit and more of a tightly choreographed system of precision airflow and combustion.

A key technical highlight of this build is the integration of AT Power throttles, specifically engineered for the Porsche 964/993 (1989–1998) platform. These feature 42mm port-to-45mm throttle bodies, designed to improve airflow efficiency while maintaining drivability across the rev range.

The system uses a cable-pull, central linkage design, preserving the analogue connection that defines classic 911 driving feel. Complementing this setup are 160mm laser marked big-bored closed mesh extensions, improving intake dynamics and stability at higher loads, along with an anodised grey idle air control (IAC) system for refined air management and cold-start control.

The result is a throttle setup that balances raw response with engineered usability, a key requirement for a road-focused restomod that still demands to be driven hard.

The Works 993 GTR Evo #5 is not a nostalgia piece, nor is it an exercise in excess. It sits in the space between heritage and modern engineering, a carefully balanced machine where every component, from the AT Power throttle system to the interior craftsmanship, serves a clear purpose.

It reflects the core ethos of 911 Retro Works in Mirfield, UK: respect the original, refine the experience, and never dilute the character that made the 993 iconic in the first place.

The result is a 911 that feels familiar, yet entirely redefined, a driver’s car built with obsessive attention to detail, and engineered for those who still believe analogue performance matters.
