Lackey’s Celica is Back on Track with Cutting-Edge EFI Upgrades!

March 6, 2025

After extensive modifications with AT Power’s product and fine-tuning, the car is now performing flawlessly at the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR) test track.
Johnnie replaced the vintage performance twin Mikuni 44 PHH Type S5 carburettors with a cutting-edge AT Power twin-housed DCOE assembly for his high compression 22R powered 1973 Toyota RA21 Celica. This new setup includes a split fuel rail for a unique appearance and better fuel delivery, sleek mesh trumpets for improved airflow and power, and an anodized blue finish for durability and a stunning aesthetic.

Despite owning the Celica for over 20 years, Johnnie recently upgraded his intake system with AT Power Motorsport’s ITG Air Sausage Filters. To ensure a perfect fit, he custom-built a carbon fibre backplate, allowing the throttle cable to pass through seamlessly. Now, with the new setup in place, Johnnie admits, “I finally have a quality filter system!”

With rough tuning progressing well, the Celica is delivering exceptional performance and responsiveness even before hitting the dyno - a testament to the successful EFI modifications and precise setup.
