Universal Individual Throttle Bodies | Direct-to-Head ITBs

AT Power’s universal individual throttle bodies are the no-compromise EFI solution when there’s no off-the-shelf kit for your engine. Supplied fully assembled, factory vacuum-balanced and spaced to your cylinder centre distances, they bolt directly to the cylinder head intake face (Direct-to-Head) or to inlet manifold flanges - with either OEM port-matched or oversized intake ports for modified engines.

Every set is specified from scratch around your engine. This page walks through each decision, in the order we’ll ask about it.

1. Engine configuration

We build for straight 2, 4 and 6 cylinder engines and V6 and V8 configurations - and, on request, V12 and one-off layouts. Tell us the engine and we’ll confirm what’s possible.

2. Throttle housing size and type

Your application decides the shape: round housings for naturally aspirated engines, and oval housings for boosted engines - turbocharged or supercharged.

Round housings are available in 38, 40, 42, 45, 48, 50, 52 and 55mm bores. AT Power’s unique oval housings are engineered with equivalent circumference to the 38-55mm round bores, delivering maximum airflow where packaging is tight. Each is available fuel injected or non-injected.

Every housing is CNC-machined in-house from aerospace-grade 6082-T6 billet aluminium with patented Shaftless knife-edged butterflies.

3. Extensions

Extensions (also called runners or velocity stacks) tune intake length to your power band. Choose 70mm, 100mm or 130mm - or none at all.

Round housings - naturally aspirated builds - take our machined aluminium extensions, anodised to match the rest of the kit.

Curved extensions are made to your geometry. Give us dimension A (from the throttle housing to the start of the bend), angle B, and optionally dimension C - or specify the resulting centreline length together with angle B, whichever is easier to measure on your engine. 4. Trumpets (ram pipes)

Trumpets screw onto the extensions in 40mm or 60mm lengths, with or without protective mesh.

Round housings with aluminium extensions take our standard trumpets, plain or meshed, tightened with the ram pipe torque tool. Mesh adds 15mm to the overall height - a 40mm trumpet stands 55mm meshed, and a 60mm stands 75mm.

Oval housings with 3D-printed extensions take the matching 3D-printed extension trumpets, plain or meshed. Mesh adds 15mm to the overall height - a 40mm trumpet stands 55mm meshed, and a 60mm stands 75mm.

5. Fuel rails and injectors

Fuel rails are supplied with injected housings only - non-injected housings take no rail.

One-piece billet fuel rails are machined to your injector spacing, with bracket heights matched to your injector family: Magneti Marelli Pico, or Bosch EV1, EV6, EV12, EV14 Short, EV14 Standard and EV14 Long. Rail ends are finished with black JIC-6 (AN6) fittings or black 8mm push-on hosetails.

Pico injectors are available in 159, 215, 250, 330, 377, 480 and 510cc. Full detail on rails, brackets and fittings is on our custom fuel rails page.

6. Cable pull or drive-by-wire

The biggest decision on the sheet, and the one we get asked about most. Pick your actuation below and we’ll show what it involves.

Mechanical cable pull is the traditional, direct-feel option: a throttle cable acting on a billet linkage. It needs a single TPS, whatever the engine configuration.

Tell us where the cable comes from and we’ll build the linkage to match - centre pull, left pull or right pull. Centre pull is the usual choice on universal sets; left and right suit engine bays where the cable run favours one end. V engines use our central V-engine linkage kit to drive both banks together.

Simple, light, serviceable, and with no electronics in the throttle path - still the choice for many race and classic builds. Add our 3m motorsport throttle cable to complete the installation.

Drive-by-wire (DBW) replaces the cable with an electronic actuator, opening up traction control, cruise, drive modes and ECU-managed idle.

On straight engines you choose where the actuator sits along the throttle bank. On V engines it mounts between cylinder banks on its own bracket, and each bank needs its own TPS - we supply the actuator and linkage to suit.

  • Mount A - straight bracket, right facing
  • Mount B - straight bracket, left facing
  • Mount C - 90° bracket, right facing
  • Mount D - 90° bracket, left facing

Each bracket is shown in three-quarter and top view. The bracket mounts red-on-red - the red fixings line up with the marked positions on the throttle bank above.

7. Throttle position sensors

Throttle position sensors come in three mountings: Magneti Marelli type, Wabash and Variohm XPD, rotary or Hall-effect contactless. Cable pull needs one sensor; drive-by-wire needs one per bank on a V engine.

Running drive-by-wire? The Variohm XPK is also available - it can only be used on a drive-by-wire setup, so it isn’t an option with cable pull.

8. Anodised finish

Choose a finish for each component independently - trumpets, aluminium extensions, throttle housings, fuel rail and DBW can each be a different colour.

Black and silver are our standard finishes. Sixteen further colours are available as bespoke options: grey, titanium, turquoise, blue 2, blue 3, denim, green 2, green 3, apple green, lime green, orange, gold, brown, red, violet and copper.

Anodised shades vary slightly batch to batch and may not match existing throttle kits exactly. Trim parts such as fittings and linkages are not colour-changeable. See the Make Power Personal anodising guide for more.

9. Ancillaries

Complete the installation with a fuel pressure regulator, ram pipe torque tool, red and black Megaflow air filter, airflow synchrometer for balancing, vacuum fittings and a 3m motorsport throttle cable.

We’re throttle body specialists rather than engine management specialists, so we don’t specify the ECU. For engine management, looms and calibration we’d point you to specialists such as Emerald, MoTeC and Technica RaceWire.

What we need from you

Starting prices for every engine configuration are listed in the price guide on the configurator - a guide only, since design time, finishes, extensions, injectors and sensors all affect the final figure.

To quote accurately we need the measurement between each throttle centre, taken across the engine, plus your cylinder count, housing size and type, and the choices above. Our enquiry form walks through every question with diagrams to measure against - fill in what you know and leave the rest blank; we’ll help with the gaps.

Can you make individual throttle bodies for any engine?

Yes. Every set is made to order and spaced to your cylinder centre distances, covering 2-, 4-, 5- and 6-cylinder, V8 and V12 engines. They bolt directly to the cylinder head intake face (Direct-to-Head) or to inlet manifold flanges.

What size throttle bodies do I need?

Round housings run 38, 40, 42, 45, 48, 50, 52 and 55mm. Oval housings are engineered to an equivalent circumference for tight packaging. Use the calculators on this page to measure your port and find the nearest size - if you fall between two, talk to us.

What is the minimum bore spacing?

Minimum spacing depends on the housing size and is given on the package technical drawings, which you’ll find on the configurator product page under Documents.

How long is the lead time?

Roughly 9-12 weeks from placing your order, depending on specification and finish.

Do you supply the ECU?

We’re throttle body specialists rather than engine management specialists, so we don’t specify the ECU. For engine management, looms and calibration we recommend specialists such as Emerald, MoTeC and Technica RaceWire.
